Wilfandel, founded in 1945, is the oldest black women’s club in Los Angeles, and was once a ”hub of high society” known for its high-class parties and equally high-class guest lists. It’s housed in the stately Wilfandel House, built in 1922 by silent film star Ramon Novarro as a home for his brother. The club requires new members to be highly civic-minded and to get approval from two active members. Since 1927, Jonathans have had access to this imposing, ivy-covered private beach club, ”cradled in the rolling bluffs” along the shore.

What’s new in West Hollywood?
Meanwhile, the sun-soaked rooftop overlooks the Hollywood Hills on one side and Downtown Los Angeles on the other and also has a Mandolin Mezze Greek-inspired restaurant. The members-only Soho House was meant to stand apart from the stuffy clubs that were a hallmark of the London social scene. This club would cater to the creative types increasingly flocking to the city’s Soho neighborhood, especially young people working in film and media. “We wanted it to be creative and like-minded, and for people who were at ease with themselves,” Jones told Eater in 2017. Club amenities will include private restaurants, bars, and lounges; a supper club; a pool; screening rooms; a fitness center and spa; and 15 guest rooms for members of the club.
We’re not suggesting that an exclusive membership can’t coexist with humility. Mindful of the criticism, especially in today’s environment, private clubs are opening up about their efforts to increase accessibility. Coggins, the Los Feliz author, initially joined the Britely when he needed a quiet and reliable place to write a book during the pandemic. But it soon became an integral part of his social life; he even spent his most recent birthday there.

Head to the dining room and enjoy Greek and Mediterranean dishes inspired by the menu of the famed Miami eatery Mandolin Aegean Bistro. The new Portland Soho house includes a restaurant with a menu from chef Matt Sigler, of the now-closed Portland restaurant Renata. According to Eater Portland, menu items include Pacific Northwestern oysters with pink peppercorn mignonette, salads made with celery root chips or puffed chickpeas, and house-made pastas. There’s also a wood-fired for grilling meat and vegetables — all locally sourced, of course.

Holloway House is located a few blocks east of Soho House West Hollywood but offers hotel rooms on top of lounge and dining spaces, while its sister property only has the latter. Work environments can make or break you, the perfect co-working space awaits at Soho Works located in West Hollywood. With gorgeous meeting rooms, lounge areas, lofts and an inclusive communal kitchen this location is prime for collaboration and creativity. Grab a coffee from the kitchen and work individually or with others in one of the work spaces, your best work is sure to come out of this experience. Like every other Soho House, art plays a central role in the property's overall design aesthetic and vibe. The Holloway House brings together the works of up-and-coming and established Los Angeles artists working in various styles, from sculpture to photography.
Soho House is not the only purveyor of cutting-edge new design in WeHo. Open last year, the ultra-glamorous Pendry West Hollywood hotel is set just off the Sunset Strip. Designed by the internationally acclaimed Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, the hotel is a sight for sore eyes, while its rooftop restaurant by Wolfgang Puck has deservedly become one of the hottest dining spots in town.
(Since 1987, it also allows non-white-male members.) Henry E. Huntington, the railroad magnate, was a member. Its other locations in California are Soho Warehouse in Downtown Los Angeles and Little Beach House Malibu, while other recent additions in the US include outposts in Austin and Nashville. Other artworks throughout Holloway House were sourced from LA artists under 40 and include sculptures, photographs, works on paper, paintings and textile-based pieces. The Mandolin Mezze restaurant, an offshoot of the Mandolin Aegean Bistro in Miami, serves small plates and organic Greek wines to guests lounging on the neutral-toned outdoor furniture. Burgundy leather booths are paired with vintage chairs in the ground-floor restaurant, which has a menu built around popular dishes from other Soho House locations.
Bathroom features include mosaic stone floors, hand-blown vanity lights, natural brass fixtures and, in some of the larger rooms, a dreamy empire bathtub. Soho Warehouse is the future Downtown LA outpost of the members-only club Soho House, which has locations worldwide, including those in West Hollywood and Malibu. Originally planned to open in 2016, the current projection is that the renovated warehouse will open sometime this year. "Each is decorated with 1960s-inspired furniture, aged wooden floors and woven tapestries made with fabric designed in Southern California especially for the House," said the design team.
Tapping into the diversity of the Los Angeles art scene, the collection comprises artists of all backgrounds producing works across a range of media. The 34 bedrooms each feature a bespoke artwork by Dan Siman-Tov, Dominique Labaki or Elizabeth Ibarra. What sets Holloway House apart from its West Hollywood predecessor is that it also has bedrooms—34 in total—ranging in size from cozy to small, medium, big, and big accessible. Set across the middle three floors, the design of the rooms reflects the local landscape, history, and culture. Just about every kind of casual restaurant format has gotten the Soho House treatment.
They have an in-house training program for restaurant staff called Cookhouse and a bar recruitment and training program, House Tonic. A New York Times article notes that the artists who once worked from the space are not the membership base the club is courting. Instead, the new Soho House seems to be banking on professionals in creative-adjacent industries, such as chefs, tech workers, business owners, and as Jackson-Glidden noted, Nike employees. “We’re trying to reach a crowd that’s creative in their souls and like-minded,” Andrew Carnie, Soho House’s chief executive, said. There’s no hard and fast rule for when and where a Soho House restaurant will open.
